Energy for Life at the Toubacouta Dispensary

In Senegal, in the heart of the Sine Saloum Delta, among mangroves and channels that create a unique landscape in the world, lies the town of Toubacouta, where nature and life intertwine in a fragile but precious balance.

Here, the local dispensary is much more than a healthcare facility: it is a reference point for hundreds of families, a place of care, listening, and hope.

But today, this hope is at risk of fading.

Frequent power outages and the ever-increasing costs of electricity are putting the facility in jeopardy. Each interruption threatens the preservation of vaccines in refrigerators and leaves healthcare staff without light during nighttime hours—perhaps at the very moment of a childbirth or an emergency.

Three years ago, Bambini nel Deserto donated an ambulance to the dispensary, and shortly after, a medical mission by the Burkina Kamba Team collaborated with local staff to improve the quality of care.

Today, a new step is necessary: to make the dispensary energy independent through a complete photovoltaic system.

Just under €15,000 is needed to purchase and install solar panels, inverters, batteries, and lighting points, ensuring constant, clean, and renewable energy. This system will keep vaccine refrigerators running, provide continuous lighting in treatment rooms, and free the dispensary from the unsustainable costs of the national grid.

Bambini nel Deserto has extensive experience in photovoltaic projects in Africa, with dozens of systems installed in rural areas. This commitment has been internationally recognized: our organization has been awarded the prestigious Energy Globe Award twice, confirming the quality and effectiveness of our work in renewable energy.
