According to an alarming World Bank report, based on a survey conducted in all 23 provinces of Chad in 2021, only a paltry fraction of the 5.3 years of schooling completed by a Chadian child, equivalent to just 2.8 years, can be considered as adequate education for learning. This shocking fact represents only the tip of the iceberg of the disastrous conditions of primary education in the country

The evaluation conducted in 2019 by the Program for the Analysis of Education Systems in French-speaking Africa revealed a sad reality: Chad ranks last among the 14 participating countries in terms of the percentage of students in the sixth year of study who achieve the minimum level of knowledge of languages and mathematics. This merciless fact indicates the enormous disadvantage to which illiterate Chadian adults are subjected, deprived of the fundamental skills necessary for a dignified life.

The education system in Chad is in a state of total disrepair. During unannounced visits to schools, it was discovered that an incredible 29.4% of teachers were absent from the school, while as many as 35.4% were absent from classrooms. In remote rural areas, the teacher absence rate reaches an unacceptable 38.3%. This tragic and destabilizing scenario seriously compromises learning opportunities.
