During 2025, the primary school “Santa Mother Teresa of Calcutta” was established thanks to the support of a generous donor, who made the rapid completion of the project a condition, along with its focus on education for peace and social development, with particular attention to the education of girls and their families, aiming to eradicate the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) imposed at a young age, which causes immense suffering and carries a high risk of death.

Between February and March 2025, the architectural project was developed with the support of the local organization AECD, a reliable and established partner, and the land was purchased on March 17, 2025. Immediately after, a water table was located, and a well with a solar pump and water tower was completed by May.

In June 2025, construction began on two school buildings, totaling six classrooms, along with the necessary ancillary buildings, using local techniques and materials inspired by the Francis Kéré model, under the constant supervision of AECD. Despite delays caused by the rainy season, construction progressed thanks to an increase in the workforce.

At the donor’s request, the complex will be completed with a perimeter wall, sports area, green spaces, educational vegetable garden, cafeteria with storage, and infirmary. From October 2025, work focused on the classroom for the first grade (CP1), allowing the school year to start on schedule. In parallel, student enrollment and school staff recruitment began.

To ensure access for the most vulnerable children and guarantee the sustainability of the school during its initial years, support from Italy will be required to cover essential annual costs, estimated at €8,525, distributed as follows:

  1. 2 teachers: €3,000
  2. Infirmary and medical assistance: €1,250
  3. Food supplies and cook: €1,800
  4. Night watchman: €600
  5. Recruitment and communication: €500
  6. School uniforms: €600
  7. Project management costs: €775
