Aourigh e Ighrem

In September 2023, a violent earthquake struck the El Haouz Region in Morocco, devastating entire villages and mountain communities. Among the hardest hit were the villages of Aourigh and Ighrem, located in the Municipality of Imgdal.

The surviving families lost not only their homes but also their daily means of livelihood.

Since 2024, Bambini nel Deserto has launched a series of emergency and reconstruction initiatives: from distributing clothing and footwear, to providing school materials for children, up to the start of local economic development projects.

The project “The Honey of the Atlas” fits into this path with the goal of strengthening the economic resilience of affected communities, by creating sustainable and profitable activities linked to beekeeping.

Project Objectives

  1. Produce and market high-quality honey.
  2. Start the production of other bee products: royal jelly, propolis, and pollen.
  3. Ensure a stable income for the families of the villages involved.
  4. Promote the enhancement of the territory and its natural resources.

Planned Activities

  1. Supply of hives and beekeeping equipment.
  2. Basic training for residents on modern beekeeping and hive management.
  3. Launch of honey and by-product production.
  4. Development of a local marketing and distribution chain.
