Oudif

On September 24, during the Echoes of Atlas II expedition, we arrived at l’Ecole de Oudif, a school at 1,660 meters altitude in the Atlas Mountains, where the earthquake of a year ago left deep scars.

This small prefabricated primary school hosts 52 students between the ages of 6 and 11, crowded into just two classrooms.

Every day, these children travel up to 8 kilometers of rugged trails from their villages or the “nearby” refugee camp to reach their desks.

Their strength and desire to learn clash with daily challenges, especially as winter approaches.

After delivering the school supplies, the two teachers shared with us the reality these children face.

With the intense cold and snow approaching, the children need warm shoes instead of the slippers most of them wore when we arrived.

The teachers provided us a list via WhatsApp with each student’s name, surname, and shoe size.

From this request, a new expedition was born: Echoes of Atlas III.

Silvia and Maurizio, who traveled by motorcycle from Italy, volunteered to go to Marrakech to pick up the shoes that will be purchased thanks to the invaluable help of Nadia, the Morocco coordinator of the SoleTerre association. From there, they will bring them directly to l’Ecole de Oudif to deliver them to the children.

It’s amazing to think that only €16 can make a difference for each of these young students, providing them with a warm, safe pair of shoes to wear to school every day despite the cold and the mountain’s challenges.

With €16, you too can help ensure a safe path for these children.

Every step toward l’Ecole de Oudif is a step toward their future, and you can walk alongside them with us.

We’re almost there! The fundraising to provide warm and safe shoes for the young students of Oudif School, in the peaks of the Atlas, is advancing with great enthusiasm. Every contribution brings us closer to our goal and fills us with hope for the future of these children, who bravely face long and challenging paths to reach their school, even during the coldest months of the year.

Special thanks go to our dear friend and colleague Nadia, from the association SoleTerre, whose support has been crucial for this initiative. Nadia and the SoleTerre team work tirelessly to improve the lives of children in Morocco and Ivory Coast, carrying out educational and humanitarian projects that offer real possibilities for growth and development to those in need.

And a heartfelt thank you to Silvia and Maurizio, who are already in Morocco, ready to do something truly special for these children. From Marrakech, they’ve committed to personally collecting the shoes and undertaking the challenging journey through roads and tracks that cross the peaks and valleys of the Atlas to deliver them directly to Oudif. Thanks to their generous commitment and dedication, this small but precious help will reach the children’s hands.

The fundraising continues, and we’re thrilled by the generosity of so many supporters – some long-time friends, others new. Each donation represents a step toward helping these children, giving them not only shoes but also the chance to reach their school safely, with dignity and hope.

With a contribution of just €16, you can still make a difference! Every donation is a smile, a pair of warm and protected feet, and a step toward a better future for the children of Oudif.

Dear donors and supporters of Bambini nel Deserto,

thanks to your incredible generosity and tireless support, we are delighted to inform you that the fundraising campaign to provide shoes for the children of Ecole de Oudif has gone beyond all expectations! Your participation has surpassed our projections, showing extraordinary trust in this project and in the mission of Bambini nel Deserto.

The shoes will be delivered in Marrakech, and in the coming days, Silvia and Maurizio, two volunteers who offered to carry out this mission, will depart for the Atlas Mountains to personally bring this essential aid to the school. Thanks to each of you, every child will receive a pair of shoes to face the winter and walk safely to school, overcoming the challenges of the mountainous terrain and harsh climate.

But the good news doesn’t stop here! With your support, we’ve raised more funds than necessary to cover the cost of the shoes. For this reason, we’ve decided to allocate the remaining funds to new missions in earthquake-affected areas, bringing additional essential items. The devastation caused by the earthquake has generated a significant need for help, and your invaluable contributions will allow us to be present in these future missions as well.

Soon, we’ll have the pleasure of sharing with you photos of this delivery: we want you to see firsthand the joy and relief of the children who, thanks to you, will face the winter with a new pair of shoes and the warmth of your solidarity.

Please remember that all donations to Bambini nel Deserto are tax-deductible, so keep your receipt. Your support is not only precious to those receiving aid but is also a fiscally encouraged gesture.

With deep gratitude,

Luca Iotti
