The project required our intervention in an extremely complex situation within the context of the Humanitarian Emergency. Several hundred Malian refugees, primarily members of the Peulh ethnic group, found themselves settling within an urban waste landfill area in the city of Bamako. Facing difficulties autonomously, they improvised very simple shelters using plastic sheets and makeshift materials.

Our response, although brief, was crucial in this emergency. We established a basic healthcare facility to provide essential medical care, accompanied by a pharmacy to ensure access to basic medicines. Additionally, we coordinated a regular meal distribution, focusing particularly on providing food support to children, the most vulnerable segment of the affected population.

A fundamental aspect of the success of this project was the valuable assistance provided by some Spanish volunteers residing in Bamako. Their collaboration and dedication significantly amplified the impact of our activities, enabling a more effective and targeted response to the needs of the refugees.

Unfortunately, the project came to a premature end due to a devastating fire, presumably set by local residents. This tragic event resulted in the destruction of the refugee camp, forcing the displaced individuals to relocate elsewhere. Fortunately, there were no human casualties, but the incident posed an additional challenge in our efforts to provide assistance and protection to those affected by this humanitarian crisis.
