The EcoBenches project is an initiative aimed at providing desks for primary schools in Burkina Faso, addressing the environmental and educational challenges the country faces in an innovative and sustainable way.
Burkina Faso is a country located in a region where the desert is relentlessly expanding northward, and deforestation has made timber increasingly rare and expensive.
Furthermore, the major cities of Burkina Faso are often plagued by plastic waste disposal problems. The key element of this project is the replacement of traditional wooden school desks with desks made using recycled plastic for the frame, seat, backrest, and workbench.
This choice is particularly significant in a context where plastic recycling is a widespread problem, and cities are often overloaded with plastic waste.
These EcoBenches offer a number of advantages
Environmental sustainability: By using recycled plastic for the production of the desks, the project helps reduce the amount of plastic waste in the environment.
This action promotes environmental sustainability and partially addresses the problem of plastic waste.
Preservation of natural resources: The choice to use recycled plastic instead of wood for the desks helps preserve Burkina Faso's forest resources, essential for combating desertification.
Improvement of school conditions: Providing desks made from recycled plastic improves the learning conditions of students, offering them a more comfortable and functional environment in which to study. Economic savings: Since recycled plastic is cheaper and more abundant than wood, this project can be more economical and sustainable in the long term. In summary, the EcoBenches project combines the promotion of education with environmental protection in Burkina Faso.
It contributes to the fight against deforestation, reduces plastic waste, improves school conditions, and offers a sustainable solution for a country grappling with complex environmental and educational challenges.
