Ukraine

Chernovohrad

The general objective of this project was to ensure the sanitation of hospital environments through the use of electrolytic sodium hypochlorite, an aqueous chlorine solution produced on-site, universally recognized as a basic disinfectant, highly effective for the sanitation of premises and medical equipment. Due to the ongoing war and the invasion of Ukraine by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, sanitizing products must be predominantly imported from abroad. Electrolytic sodium hypochlorite can be produced on-site using equipment called NaCLO30, an electrolyzer built by Medivac Srl of Parma (Italy), which guarantees the economic and environmental sustainability of production in total autonomy. Thanks to the use of NaCLO30, Ukrainian healthcare facilities will be able to independently produce disinfectant according to their needs. The NaCLO30 equipment is easy to use and equipped with everything necessary for its operation; each production cycle lasts approximately 5 hours and is capable of producing 30 liters of electrolytic sodium hypochlorite at a concentration of 5,000 ppm / 0.5%, using only 30 liters of clean water (not necessarily potable), 1 kg of sea salt, and 500 Watts of electric power obtained from the grid or a generator. The project activities were divided into 4 phases:

  1. Purchase of NaCLO30 machines and power generators for the operation of the equipment even in the event of power cuts;
  2. Organization of a convoy consisting of 2 vehicles to transport the equipment from Italy to Ukraine through Austria, the Czech Republic, and Poland;
  3. Delivery, installation, and training of local staff on the proper use of the equipment;
  4. Return of the convoy to Italy. Thanks to the solid partnership between Bambini nel Deserto and the Municipality of Cervonohrad, developed over the past year, healthcare facilities and hospitals have benefited from the materials, equipment, and vehicles delivered by the Association. This has allowed us to gain the trust of the Medical Directors who recognized in our NaCLO30 proposal the solution to free their facilities from the scarcity or risk of running out of disinfectant and sanitizing detergents.
