The project was conceived with the objective of offering a constructive alternative to migration for young adolescents from families facing severe socio-economic difficulties.
Its implementation involved the opening of a vocational training school specializing in carpentry, focusing primarily on the production of furniture and fittings. A key aspect of this project was the assignment of the management of the facility to Mohamar Seck, an individual who had previously left his home country to seek opportunities in Italy. After over 20 years spent as a carpenter in Italy, Mohamar returned to his home country with extensive experience in the field, making him an ideal figure to lead the vocational training school. The school provided young adolescents with the opportunity to acquire practical skills in carpentry, a highly demanded trade in the job market. Students had access to high-quality training courses, with a balanced practical and theoretical approach, which included teachings on the design and production of furniture and fittings. In addition to technical training, the project also provided psychological support and social assistance to the students, helping them to overcome the socio-economic challenges they had previously faced. This holistic approach contributed to improving the prospects of these young people and strengthening their connection to the local community. Furthermore, the school encouraged entrepreneurial spirit among the students, teaching them how to start and manage small businesses in the carpentry sector. This created additional employment and business opportunities within the community, contributing to improving local economic prospects. Ultimately, this vocational training project was an effective example of how an individual with experience and skills can return to their home community and contribute significantly to economic growth and social well-being, offering a positive alternative to migration.
