๐ง Rehabilitation of the Acarara Well ๐ง
In the summer of 2024, an unprecedented flood hit the Acarara area, causing severe damage to the well, which was built as part of the Aman Iman Project.
The well was a vital resource for the community, providing water for the irrigation of a large plot of over one hectare ๐ฑ.
The flood engulfed the structure, filling it with mud and debris ๐๏ธ. The water level reached and damaged the batteries that powered the submersible pump, making them unusable โก๐.
๐ช A first step towards recovery
Thanks to the efforts of the local community, the well was cleared of debris.
Fortunately, the solar panels โ๏ธ were not damaged and can be reused once 8 new batteries are purchased.
๐๏ธ Protection and prevention for the future
To prevent similar damage in the future, the batteries will be placed in a protective structure resistant to the elements. They will be positioned at least one meter above the ground to prevent future flooding and ensure constant water access in case of emergencies ๐.
๐ค Who will carry out the intervention?
The rehabilitation project will be managed by Bambini nel Deserto Niger, based in Agadez, which will oversee the work and ensure the well is effectively and sustainably restored ๐ ๏ธ.
