Thanks to the generosity of many supporters and the tireless commitment of our members Massimo Tasca (Maximo Bolsillo) and Alessandra Bedin, Tanouchert has already experienced moments of extraordinary revival.
In recent years, their dedication made it possible to rebuild the "maison de passage," an essential landmark for travelers passing through this oasis/village, which also served as the nerve center of social and economic life.
The fundraising was so generous that it allowed us not only to rebuild the "maison," which had been destroyed by a fire, but also to restore the classrooms of the primary school, which had been devastated by a sudden flood.
The people of Tanouchert didn’t stop there. Aware of the fundamental role the school plays in their children's future, they rolled up their sleeves and added a third classroom, completing the project with their hard work on the ground.
Today, Tanouchert needs another courageous act from us.
Massimo and Alessandra are about to return to Mauritania with a new goal: to furnish the classroom with desks, a teacher’s desk, a blackboard, and chairs, so that the children can finally have a proper learning environment.
But our commitment doesn't stop here.
The school needs sanitary facilities to ensure the children have safe and dignified hygiene conditions, as well as a small room to be used as a medical clinic. This will allow the doctor and nurse, who periodically visit the oasis, to provide care in a protected and equipped space, instead of having to treat people under a tin roof.
Tanouchert, a small village nestled among the dunes in northern Mauritania, has been tested by nature’s forces multiple times. Yet, each time, the community has shown extraordinary resilience.
First, the flood devastated the primary school, leaving over 60 children without a safe place to study. Shortly after, a fire destroyed the "maison de passage," which not only provided shelter for travelers and income for the village but was also the heart of community life.
Despite these tragedies, Tanouchert has shown remarkable strength, but now it needs our support.
With your help, we can complete this new phase of rebirth: building sanitary facilities, furnishing the additional classroom, and creating a medical clinic to provide care in a suitable environment.
This project is not just an act of solidarity, but a promise of a future for a community that has already shown gratitude, initiative, and an unwavering will to rise again every time.
